3-carat diamond found at Goodwill store

Last month, a Goodwill worker was sifting through the donated jewelry at a store in Annandale, Virginia.

She found a ring that came in a bag filled with other jewelry.

She knew right away the band was 14 karat gold but assumed the diamond wasn't real.

She thought they might be able to get $50 for it.

Turns out she couldn't have been more wrong. The 3-carat diamond was appraised at $8,300!

The ring was sold Thursday for nearly $12,000.

The money will be used to support job training programs at the store.
