About $30 million worth of hundred dollar bills may have to be destroyed by the federal government. And taxpayers will have to foot the bill for the error.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing caused the error and the bills will have to be reprinted. It happened during the summer printing. Too much ink was used and the lines on the artwork for the new $100 bills aren't as clear, say officials.
Even with the error, the new $100 bills are still supposed to be released on time in October.
