Six Rhode Island beaches get OK for swimming

The state health department has recommended the reopening to swimmers of six beaches it said earlier in the week had high bacteria levels.

Health officials said Friday that swimming is considered safe again at Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown; Bristol Town Beach; Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick; Fogland Beach and Grinnell's Beach in Tiverton; and Warren Town Beach.

Water sample testing showed bacteria levels had fallen to within acceptable limits.

Meanwhile, the department recommended the closure of City Park Beach in Warwick to swimming, also because of high bacteria levels.

The department monitors water quality in the summer months to ensure safe conditions for beachgoers.
