Most of Rhode Island is under a heat advisory with temperatures in the 90s and a heat index that is making it feel even hotter.
The National Weather Service advisory is in effect until Friday evening for areas off the immediate coast. It also applies to eastern Massachusetts.
A high of 92 was reported for Providence on Friday. With the humidity forecasters say it feels like it's over 100 degrees.
Health and emergency management officials warn people who work or spend long periods of time outside to take precautions, including drinking plenty of fluids. People are also urged to take frequent breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned environments, if possible.
Saturday's high is again expected to be in the 90s, with a heat index over 100.
