Rhode Island's governor signed a bill honoring the parents of those in the military.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee put his signature on the legislation Thursday. The bill declares the first Sunday after Mother's Day as "Blue Star Parents Day."
The date will be recognized annually as a day of special observance.
"It's very, very important to have the families that are connected on some of these long commitments to service that these military members do. It's very, very important to recognize this right after Mother's Day," said Chafee.
The Blue Star Mothers of America organization provides various support to the parents of servicemen across the country.
