Workers pulled a car out of a pond Monday at Roger Williams Park in Providence.
The Nissan Altima looked like it had been in the water for quite some time, police said.
The car was spotted by someone fishing. It was in about 10 feet of water in what is called Elm Lake.
A tow truck with a small crane arm was needed to lift the car. The scene drew a crowd of onlookers because it was a bit of a production to get it.
A police dive team and detectives were on hand to determine if there was a body in the car. There was not.
One investigator said the car may have been burned but that was not certain.
Investigators said they will try to get a VIN from the car to determine where it came from, who it belonged to, and if it was stolen.
