Central Falls man charged with animal cruelty
A Central Falls man is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly docking the ears of a pit bull puppy.
John Montegio was arraigned Wednesday in District Court on two counts of unnecessary cruelty to animals and one count of unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine.
Montegio, 38, was deemed a bail violator and was being held at the ACI until his next appearance in court.
Police said the investigation began last month when a pit bull puppy was brought to the Attleboro Animal Shelter for a microchip. The staff said the dog's ears were infected from being clipped.
Police said they found three pit bulls at Montegio's home. It's illegal to own pit bulls in Central Falls.
Officers seized the dogs.
