Central Falls man sentenced for molestation

A Central Falls man convicted of second-degree child molestation was sentenced to serve eight years in prison.

Ricardo Florez, 51, also was ordered at Tuesday's sentencing hearing to have no contact with the victim and undergo counseling. He must register as a sex offender when he's released.

Prosecutors said Florez molested a 13-year-old boy in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant in Pawtucket on Aug. 1, 2010. Florez solicited the boy and grabbed his hand in an attempt to force the victim to touch him, prosecutors said.

The boy told his father, who contacted Pawtucket police. Florez was apprehended a few days later while riding his bike in the same area.

"This brave young victim was able to escape from his abuser before something worse happened, yet no child should ever be in a position where they need to escape from a sexual predator," said Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said in a news release.
