Clay Pell, senator's grandson, considers run for RI gov.
The grandson of the late U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell is considering a run for governor of Rhode Island in 2014.
Clay Pell, who lives in the Washington area but keeps a home in Providence, is a stranger to local politics.
Pell's entry into the governor's race as a Democrat could trigger a three-way primary. General Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras are potential candidates.
Pell married Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan earlier this year in Providence. He works for the U.S. Department of Education and previously worked at the White House.
Pell has previously considered running for Congress.
