Coast Guard rescues injured fisherman

A still from U.S. Coast Guard video shows an injured fisherman being hoisted into a helicopter on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.

The Coast Guard rescued an injured fisherman from a New Bedford-based fishing boat early Monday.

The Coast Guard said the 51-year-old crew member partially severed a finger while fixing the Bulldog's steering mechanism. The boat was about 60 miles east of Chatham.

The crew member was hoisted to a Coast Guard helicopter at about 7 a.m. and flown to Massachusetts General Hospital. His condition wasn't immediately available.

The remaining crew members fixed the steering, and the boat was returning to New Bedford.
