Congressman Cicilline statement on State of the Union
U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline(D-RI) today issued the following statement on President Barack Obama's Stateof the Union Speech:
"Tonight, President Obama laid out a clear set of proposalsthat will help strengthen the middle class, grow our economy, and ensure thatall Americans who play by the rules have an equal opportunity to succeed.
"The President's agenda would make targeted investments ininfrastructure, manufacturing, job training, and early childhoodeducation. This is a commonsense, practical approach that will createjobs, close the skills gap, and help U.S. businesses compete in today's globaleconomy.
"While I am pleased the President will take executiveactions to address some of these issues, like increasing the minimum wage forfederal contractors, Congress needs to do its part to accomplish the big jobsof repairing our economy, advancing U.S. manufacturing, fixing our brokenimmigration system, renewing unemployment benefits for the long-termunemployed, and increasing the minimum wage for all Americans working fulltime.
"We face many difficult challenges in the year ahead and Ilook forward to working with the President and with my colleagues on both sidesof the aisle to create good paying jobs and move country forward."
