Council to discuss Prudence Island Ferry's fate

The Portsmouth Town Council will discuss the fate of the Prudence Island Ferry Saturday.

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the Prudence Island Improvement Association Building, on the island.

The ferry is tops on the agenda after ferry operator Bruce Medley said he will retire and stop operating the ferry as of Dec 1st.

The town of Bristol bought the ferry dock and parking lots from Medley for $800,000, now Portsmouth has issued a request for ferry service to continue. Portsmouth officials say the ferry is the only means of transportation on and off the island.
