Cranston church to sell buildings to Maronites
A Cranston parish is selling its buildings to a local Maronite Catholic community that was displaced by a fire in 2005.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence announced Sunday that it has approved St. Ann Parish's request to sell its church and rectory to the Maronite community.
The community is Catholic and under the authority of the Pope.
The diocese says Maronites had worshipped at Pawtucket's St. George Church until a fire destroyed the church and its adjacent hall in October, 2005.
The community has since worshipped at St. Raymond Church in Providence, but has sought a permanent location.
St. Ann is selling the buildings to the Maronites for $850,000.
The diocese says St. Ann parishioners will still be able to use the church for Sunday worship and special occasions.
