Cranston workers get rat elimination training
CRANSTON, R.I. —
Cranston officials are gearing up for another rat infestation by sending city workers to a two-day pesticide course offered by the University of Rhode Island.
The city has been dealing with increasing numbers of rats since last summer. Residents have seen the rodents running across their yards in broad daylight and getting into their trash. One woman even reported a rat running across her foot.
City officials told The Providence Journal that four city workers are completing the training course this week and two more will take the course by the end of next month.
City workers have placed about 400 boxes containing rat poison across the city. Residents also are being asked to cover trash cans, store pet food inside and keep bird feeders to a minimum.
