Cumberland advances to New England regional championship game

The Cumberland American Little League team advanced to the New England regional tournament championship game on Thursday after beating Maine 13-4 in extra innings.

Cumberland will play Connecticut at 7 p.m. Saturday. Connecticut beat Massachusetts 9-0 in the tournament's other semifinal game. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Cumberland scored nine runs in the eighth inning after allowing Maine to tie the game 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.

Cumberland scored in the eighth inning on a walk by Tyler Provost, a two-run single by Sean Meers, an RBI single by Trey Bourque, an RBI single by Nick Croteau and a three-run home run by Jayden Struble.

Croteau got the win for Cumberland. He allowed one run over three innings, struck out six, and gave up four hits.

Alexander Smith had three hits for Maine.
