Early-morning fire drives family from Providence home
A large fire engulfed the top floor of a multifamily home in Providence on Wednesday, displacing one family.
Investigators remained on the scene during the morning trying to determine what caused the overnight fire at 346 Admiral St.
The fire started at 3:40 a.m. and was put out about 45 minutes later.
Most of the damage was on the third floor where the family lived.
Chief Clarence Cunha of the Providence Fire Department told NBC 10 that a portion of the building's roof collapsed, injuring a firefighter.
"At one point they were thinking about removing the firefighters from the third floor but they got the fire knocked down, brought the rest of the firefighters back in and knocked the rest of the fire down," Cunha said.
The Red Cross is assisting the family of three adults and three children.
