EEE found in New Bedford

Mosquito samples in New Bedford have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

The insects were trapped in the northwest quadrant of the city and are believed to be{}largely a bird-biting species.

This is the second positive EEE mosquito finding in Bristol County this week, as officials reported a positive sample in Freetown.

Spraying will take place tomorrow in a number of spots in New Bedford beginning at 2:00 am.

This round of spraying includes Fort Taber, Brooklawn Park, Buttonwood Park, Hazelwood Park, Riverside Park, the Poor Farm Area, Clasky Park, Ashley Park, Ben Rose Field, Sassaquin Avenue and Industrial Park area. Spraying will take place between 2:00 am and sunrise so be sure to keep all windows and doors closed.
