Fall River implementing 'pay as you throw' program
FALL RIVER, Mass. —
In just a couple of weeks the city of Fall River will begin a pay as you throw program with trash removal.
Residents will have to use a certain kind of trash bag that they pay for. If they don't comply with the new system, their trash will still be picked up but the addresses will be recorded and those people will receive a visit to talk about the change.
Fall River stands to benefit heavily from the move. The city anticipates bringing in $2.7 million dollars a year thanks to the new bags and expects to save $800 thousand dollars because of increased recycling.
The program starts on Monday, August 4th.
