Fall River library's turtle has new name

Sheldon was picked as the name of the Fall River Public Library's new mascot.

The Fall River Public Library's new mascot has a name.

After a public vote was held by the library and The Herald News, "Sheldon" was picked as the turtle's name. The winning entry was sent in by 8-year-old Darius Bayanilla.

The Russian turtle was donated to the library after its mascot, another turtle named Franklin, was stolen in May. It has not been found.

Library officials said they received hundreds of potential names for the turtle.
