A woman living alone at 33 Woodman St. in Providence had quite the scare just before 1:30 a.m. Friday.
Her two-story home caught fire from inside. The fire chief said he believes the building is a total loss.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the home and quickly spread to the first floor. The woman ran outside just before fire crews arrived at the scene.
The chief described the smoke and fire damage as extensive. It took about 45 minutes for the Providence Fire Department to extinguish the flames.
No one was injured, but the woman's cat died.
The Red Cross is helping the woman relocate temporarily. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The chief said it does not appear to be suspicious.
