Fire official: White powder at RI campus was sugar
A fire official told NBC 10 on Friday that a white powder found in an envelope at the Lincoln campus of the Community College of Rhode Island was determined to be non-hazardous.
The campus was evacuated and classes were canceled after a professor received the envelope containing the powder. Campus police alerted the Lincolnpolice and fire departments.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management tested the substance and it was found to be powdered sugar, according to the fire official.
CCRI said all regularly scheduled classes and activities will be held Saturday. Spring break officially starts Monday.
