Fire rips through Warwick building

Heavy flames were seen coming from the two-story building on Hardig Road.

Firefighters from Warwick responded to a two-story commercial property fire early Tuesday.

The fire broke out at about 4 a.m. in a building just behind 207 Hardig Road near Centerville Road.{} Heavy flames could be seen nearly two hours after the fire broke out.{} The building burnt to the ground.

The fire battalion chief told NBC 10 it appears to be a total loss, very little of the structure is left. Officials said no one was inside the property when the fire started. The owner of the building and the owner of the business were on the scene.

The building housed JMG Inc., a plumbing and heating business.

The chief said extinguishing the fire was particularly difficult because fire hydrants were extremely far away from the property.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Hardig Road, between Route 117 and Cowesett Road, was closed Tuesday morning while crews still worked at the scene. It has now been reopened to traffic.
