A fire broke out at about 7 p.m. Sunday at a home on Red Oak Lane in North Dartmouth.

Tankers had to be called in from three neighboring fire districts since the nearest hydrant was more than a mile away.

Investigators believe the fire started in the basement and worked its way up through the structure. The cause was not immediately known.

The four people inside the home were able to escape safely.
