Fire sweeps through triple-decker; 3 firefighters injured

A fire in Providence has left 15 people homeless.

Four people were hurt, including three firefighters, at a house fire in Providence Monday night.

Fire Chief Clarence Cunha described all the injuries as minor.

Two firefighters suffered burns to the face, one had an eye injury, and a tenant of the home was treated for smoke inhalation.

Early on during the fire four firefighters called a "mayday," meaning they were trapped on the first floor of the triple-decker at 55 Plymouth St.

Cunha said other firefighters were able to quickly get them out of a door and windows.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping 19 people with emergency shelter and food.
