Fire tears through neighborhood in Pawtucket

Fire damaged eight buildings in a Pawtucket neighborhood, displacing dozens of residents.

Investigators said the fire broke out Sunday afternoon in a house near Harrison and Slater streets. It quickly spread to other buildings in windy conditions.

Officials said a dog was killed but that other pets were saved. One firefighter was treated for breathing in smoke and another had a minor injury.

Most of the buildings were a total loss. The Red Cross was helping 36 people displaced.

Firefighters from surrounding cities and towns responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
