Freshwater fishing season is underway

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management stocked local ponds with 80,000 trout for the opening of fishing season, which began on Saturday.
The season began at ponds around the state, with Cass Pond in Woonsocket, Slater Park Pond in Pawtucket, and Ponderosa Park Pond in Little Compton being reserved for children only.
A 2014 fishing license is required for anglers 15 years of age and older wishing to catch fish.
The trout stocked in more than 100 local ponds were raised in local hatcheries and feature brook, brown, and rainbow trout for the more than 42,000 freshwater fishermen in Rhode Island.
