Grand jury declines to bring charges against Brown U. students
A Providence Country Grand Jury declined to bring charges against two Brown University students accused of rape, the state attorney general said Monday.
The students were freshman on Brown's football team but were removed from the team's roster over the summer.
Providence police opened a criminal investigation in February when a 19-year-old woman told detectives she was drugged and raped inside a Brown dorm room by the two men.
The incident happened in November after a night out with friends at a local bar.
The woman told police she was "drugged in some way unknown to her when her arms and body fell limp." And that, "she told him no, but she could not move."
The alleged victim obtained restraining orders against both men that were lifted at the end of the school year.
Providence police detectives turned the case over to the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office over the summer.
Brown released a statement that said the university has no comment on the legal proceeding and that it doesn't comment on individual student matters.
