Police: Citizens help with Central Falls arrest
A pregnant clerk was robbed at gunpoint in Central Falls this weekend and loyal customers came to her rescue.
The robbery happened at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at Kandel Food Shop on Broad Street.
Police said the clerk, who is eight-months pregnant, was forced to give cash to 41-year-old Jason Dias, of Providence.
Police said Dias pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the clerk and said he would kill everyone if he didn't get the cash he wanted. He fired one shot toward the clerk, narrowly missing her on his way out the door.
However, police said Dias didn't get far with the money because some customers tackled him on his way out. The customers held onto Dias until officers arrived.
Dias faces numerous charges including assault with a dangerous weapon and is being held without bail.
