Seekonk police are investigating the discovery of a camera hidden in the women's locker room at the Planet Fitness gym on Route 44.
There have been no arrests in the case.
Seekonk police told NBC 10 News that the secret camera was discovered at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, although it's unclear who found it and where it was in the locker room.
Gym members were surprised by the news.
"Pretty violating and disgusting that someone would actually do that," Lindsay Carreiro said.
"You come to a gym thinking you're in sort of a safe environment and then you find out there are people watching you in the changing room, which is a complete violation of anyone's privacy," Jessica Alves said.
A Planet Fitness corporate spokeswoman sent NBC 10 News a statement.
"At Planet Fitness, the privacy of our members is extremely important to us. We are aware of the alleged incident that took place at the Planet Fitness in Seekonk, MA. The franchise owner is working closely with the local authorities to investigate this matter," the statement said.
Gym members who spoke to NBC 10 said they like Planet Fitness, but the incident raised doubts.
"It makes me a little skeptical to use the facilities. I would come to the gym, but I don't think I'd be going into the locker room," said Denise Frageorgia.
"I'm pretty shocked. I don't change here thankfully but it makes me maybe reconsider joining another gym," Carreiro said.
It wasn't immediately known how long the camera may have been in the locker room.
