Historic diner moved to county jail

The Shawmut Diner was moved on a flatbed to the Bristol County House of Correction in Dartmouth.

New Bedford's historic Shawmut Diner has been moved to its new home.

The diner's owners donated it to the Bristol County Jail and House of Correction in Dartmouth, where it will be used to train inmates for restaurant jobs.

The longtime owners recently decided they wanted to retire and spend more time with the family.

The diner was built in 1953.
