Improvements to be made at Providence Station

Federal officials joined Gov. Lincoln Chafee on Monday to announce nearly $6 million aimed at improving the exterior of Providence Station.

The train station is the front door to the capital city for many visitors, and it has broken sidewalks and crumbling retaining walls, not to mention a clock tower with a clock displaying the wrong time.

For years, there have been efforts to improve and repair the station.

The money would go toward exterior improvements and changing car, bus and passenger access.
