A new, statewide art festival will be held this fall to honor the late Iona Dobbins, who was called the "First Lady" of Rhode Island's art world.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee made the announcement about the Ionafestival Friday morning.
It will take place Sept. 28 beginning with a New Orleans style procession through downtown, Providence winding up at the main event at the Roots Cultural Center.
Ionafest will be an annual event, hosted by a different arts organization every year.
