The Central Coventry Fire District will be dissolved through liquidation, a Kent County Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday.
Court-appointed receiver Richard Land told NBC 10 News that all equipment and real estate owned by the fire district will be sold to pay off debts. Land said the court set the deadline of May 16 for the liquidation to be complete.
Land said the judge did not order the fire district closed immediately because of safety concerns.
According to Land, the court vacated a previous order putting liquidation on hold, paving the way for the fire district to officially begin the liquidation process.
The Central Coventry Fire Department will cease to exist at 11:59 p.m. May 16.
