A Washington County Superior Court jury on Friday acquitted a Westerly man of a manslaughter charge in connection with the stabbing death of another man in 2012.
Prosecutors said 42-year-old Mandell Tripp stabbed 37-year-old Kevin Brown, of South Kingstown.
Tripp's attorney, William Murphy, argued that his client acted in self-defense.
Police found Brown's body in a car in Westerly on Oct. 29, 2012, the day of Superstorm Sandy. Officers said he tried driving himself to the hospital after getting into a fight with Tripp.
According to the Westerly Sun, one of the basic factual disputes was whether the victim was inside the house, as asserted by the defense, or whether Brown was actually outside when he was stabbed.
