Landmark restaurant to be torn down
Fall River is losing one its landmark restaurants.
The Herald News reported that Sagres Restaurant will have to be demolished because of fire damage.
Sagres was the city's first Portuguese restaurant and it was housed in a Columbia Street building that was built around 1900.
An electrical fire destroyed several apartments in the block-long building on July 6 and caused severe smoke and water damage to the restaurant below. It took several hours to get the fire under control.
Sagres opened in the mid-1970s.
