Federal sequestration has claimed another annual Rhode Island tradition.
The Rhode Island National Guard said Tuesday that the 2013 Leapfest scheduled for August in West Kingston has been canceled.
Leapfest is an international parachute competition. The Rhode Island National Guard has hosted it for 30 years.
"Under the current guidelines of sequestration outlined by the Department of Defense, all scheduled military demonstrations, including jump teams are prohibited from performing," Maj. Gen. Kevin McBride, adjutant general and commanding general of the Rhode Island National Guard, said in a news release.
McBride said the guard would prepare for next year's Leapfest.
Federal budget cuts forced the Rhode Island National Guard to cancel this year's Open House and Air Show in June.
