City presents case in Cheaters license hearing
Several Providence police officers testified at a hearing Wednesday before the city's Board of Licenses as part of the city's push to convince the board to close down Cheaters strip club.
The club has been voluntarily closed since July after a 15-year-old girl from Boston who was reported missing was found dancing at Cheaters. She had presented the owners with two fake IDs stating she was 22.
The owners have said there was "nothing else they could do" to prove she was legally old to strip.
Police said the girl was pimped out by a known sex offender, and investigators are looking to see if the girl was operating alone or part of a larger case.
Only lawyers for the city presented their case in front of the licensing board Wednesday. Lawyers for Cheaters will present their case on Sept. 30.
The owners have put the strip club up for sale at $8 million.
