Lightning strikes barn kills 2 horses

Two horses are dead after an early-morning fire on Prospect Square in Hope Valley.

Hopkinton Fire Chief Fred Stanley said the fire started after a lightning strike hit a barn{} just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Several other horses in the barn were able to get out unharmed.

Fire Departments from Ashaway and Carolina were called in for mutual aid along with the State Fire Marshall.

Stanley tells NBC 10 that the barn is owned by the Burnett family.
