A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday marked the re-opening of the Davey Lopes swimming pool in Providence.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras closed the pool last summer due to poor attendance and structural problems, but public pressure pushed the city into renovating it.
It cost the city about $92,000 to get the pool back in shape for the summer season.
The city's five pools and 11 water parks opened for the season Monday.
"I'm happy because our children and our children's children will have a place to go instead of walking around all day getting into trouble," said Shirley McMorris of Providence.
Pools and water parks operate from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They close for the season Aug. 15.
