Former Marine and political newcomer Cormick Lynch has kicked off his campaign for the Rhode Island congressional seat now held by Democratic Rep. David Cicilline.
Lynch officially announced his bid for the Republican nomination Wednesday at the Hotel Viking in his hometown of Newport.
The war in Iraq veteran didn't mention Cicilline by name as he blasted the state's congressional delegation and President Barack Obama for Rhode Island's highest unemployment rate in the nation of 8.7 percent, political gridlock in Washington and what he called the Obama administration's failures in the war in Afghanistan.
He said he wants to restore faith in America.
Lynch faces opposition for the GOP nomination from Brown University medical student Stan Tran, while former Army Capt. Matt Fecteau is challenging Cicilline for the Democratic nod.
