Man accused of embezzling $34,000 from his employer
A Woonsocket man stole more than $34,000 from his employer, Rhode Island State Police said Friday.
Jason Boudreau, 39, was charged with embezzlement over $1,500. He was arraigned in District Court and released on $20,000 personal recognizance. He's scheduled to next appear in court for a pre-arraignment conference on Aug. 14.
State police were tipped off to Boudreau by a complaint from the owner of a Cranston-based HVAC company where Boudreau was working as the controller.
Investigators said Boudreau prepared fraudulent payroll journals to obtain unauthorized bonuses totaling $34,826.11.
Boudreau faces up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
