A 27-year-old man accused of a taking a 13-year-old girl from Rhode Island to his home in New Jersey has withdrawn a bail request and been ordered held without it until his next court appearance.
The Providence Journal reported that the federal public defender for Daniel Berger of Haskell, N.J., said Wednesday his client decided not to seek bail, but reserved the right to do so later.
Federal Magistrate Judge Patricia Sullivan ordered Berger held pending further court action.
Berger is facing a charge of transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Authorities said he communicated with the Portsmouth girl online, then picked her up at her house and drove her to New Jersey. She has been reunited with her family.
