Providence police said a man was beaten with a wooden board during a fight Wednesday night and critically injured.
Maj. David Lapatin said the fight happened at about 6 p.m. Wednesday behind a restaurant on Federal Hill. Lapatin said the fight had nothing to do with the restaurant.
The victim, 34-year-old Jonathan Stack, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Police said it appears he was hit with a wooden board in his upper torso area.
Police said they did not know what sparked the fight.
"It's still too early to determine that," Lapatin said. "His injuries are very significant right now, so we're more concerned about that."
Police said they had two people in custody.
