Man charged with murder in woman's overdose death
A 23-year-old Providence man was indicted on a murder charge for allegedly selling fentanyl to a 29-year-old woman who overdosed, the attorney general's office said Tuesday.
Aaron Andrade was charged with one count of murder, one count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, and one count of delivery of a controlled substance.
Kristen Coutu, 29, of Cranston, was found dead in her car on Feb. 17, 2014, near Farmington Avenue and Hubbard Street. The medical examiner said the cause of death to be fentanyl intoxication.
Prosecutors said Andrade sold a drug containing "nearly pure fentanyl" to Coutu, causing her death. Fentanyl is a prescription pain reliever.
Andrade's arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 16 in Providence County Superior Court.
