A Taunton man faces charges after police said he struck and killed a dog while on a dirt bike and later fled from police.

Ryan Vliet, 24, was charged with cruelty to animals, trespassing, operating with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, operating to endanger, failure to report injuring or killing a dog and failure to wear a helmet.

Police arrested and charged Vliet on Thursday morning.

According to police, Vilet was riding on a dirt bike on 220 Brighton St. in Raynham when he struck and killed a 2-year-old beagle named Zelda on Aug. 17. Police said a 14-year-old boy was walking the dog on a leash when the dog was struck by the dirt bike.

Police said Vliet ran from police when they tried to stop him in the same area on Aug. 19 at about noon.

Police said they are still investigating.
