MassDOT awards South Coast Rail contract

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation awarded a $210 million construction management contract for the South Coast Rail project.

The contract with Vanasse Hangen Brustlin covers management, early design development and environmental permitting in the first year.

South Coast Rail would restore commuter train service from Boston to Fall River and New Bedford by way of Canton Junction. New stations are planned for Stoughton, North Easton, Raynham Park, Taunton, Taunton Depot, Freetown and Fall River.

The entire cost of the project is estimated at $2.3 billion.
