Firefighters injured in Providence fire

Prairie Ave Fire after scene

Eight Providence firefighters were injured, battling a 2-alarm fire at 432 Prairie Avenue Friday night.

Crews responded to the scene at about 10 p.m. . Fire Chief Daniel Crowley said the mayday was called by another firefighter, who saw a ceiling fall on top of some fellow firefighters. Rescue crews arrived on scene and transported all eight injured officers to the hospital.

According to Providence Fire, all firefighters have been treated and released. The extent of the injured officers is still unknown, and it is also unknown if any of the firefighters will be placed on off-duty medical leave as a result of the accident.
