Mayor seeks federal aid to save firefighter jobs
FALL RIVER, Mass. —
Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan said Tuesday he's looking for federal help to prevent firefighter layoffs.
He's trying to get a federal grant, and has contacted several senators and representatives in Congress for help.
The mayor says 60 firefighters could be laid off.
A federal grant that saved the department five years ago is starting to run out.
Union leaders fear the cuts could put the city at risk.
