Museums offer school vacation activities
Public school students in some communities across Southern New England have the week off for vacation.
Instead of camping out in front of the TV, NBC 10 found some entertaining -- and educational -- alternatives for families.
The New Bedford Whaling Museum has plenty of activities for school-age children, including arts and crafts and movies. They can even walk through a giant inflatable whale.
"We had several hundred visitors today, and we expect it to be the same the rest of the week," the museum's Brian Witkowski said Monday.
At the Providence Children's Museum, Monday started with Imagination Playground and later this week it's Happy Earth Day, Animal Experiences, Mad Science and Farm Friends.
The museum's Megan Fischer says there's plenty to do inside and outside.
"We have hands-on children garden for them to explore and families to bring a picnic to have outside," Fischer said.
