NBC 10 Cares Thanksgiving telethon raises more than $63K

The holidays became a little brighter for several families after more than $63,000 was raised Thursday during the "NBC 10 Cares Thanksgiving Telethon."

NBC 10 received more than 500 donations and pledges, including a $5,000 gift from the Amica Companies Foundation.

Proceeds will be used to help The Salvation Army provide 3,000 food baskets to families in Southern New England.

Although the telethon has ended, you can still make a donation online. Please have your credit card ready.

A donation of any amount will help meet the need this Thanksgiving, but please consider the suggested contributions below:

  • 1 Small Food Basket, $25
  • 1 Medium Food Basket, $45
  • 1 Large Food Basket, $70
  • 5 Small Food Baskets, $125
  • 5 Medium Food Baskets, $225

The "NBC 10 Cares Thanksgiving Telethon" was an extension of the 10 Cares Thanksgiving food drive.

Nonperishable food items can be dropped off at participating Shaw's supermarkets in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., from now through Nov. 25. Look for the marked bins.

Shaw's will provide 3,000 $10 gift cards to be included in the food baskets. The Salvation Army will sort and distribute the food to families.
